Dissertation - Weitere - Fakultätsübergreifendes Projekt
Status:abgeschlossen
Kurzinhalt:Teachers’ beliefs thoughts and decisions on educational matters constitute the most significant part of the teaching process. A teacher’s belief normally reflects the definite nature of the instruction the teacher delivers to students (Kagan, 1992). Research shows that the integration of environmental education in primary schools in Tanzania has yielded little results. In order to have a clear understanding of how teachers’ beliefs influence the success or failure in implementing sustainability education in primary school curriculum, one need to understand education institution as a system. Thus, empirical study is deemed necessary since there is paucity of research in this area. However, successful implementation of sustainability education depends upon a number of factors. Teachers being fundamental in this case.
The study seeks to answer the following questions; To what extent does Primary school curriculum in Tanzania incorporate sustainability education content? And does it conform to the global perspective of sustainability? What views and perceptions do teachers have on the integration of sustainability education content into their teaching?
How sustainability education is content integrated into primary school curriculum in Tanzania? And how does it relate to integration of EE that has been recommended in the literature? What views and perceptions do other educational stakeholders have as prerequisite conditions for successful implementation of sustainability education to promote Education for sustainable development?
Theories such as governance and theory of planned behavior developed by Ajzen (1985) will inform the study. Grounded theory methodology will be employed as study design.
